This was our first trip to Rio. We wanted to see and experience the most the city had to offer and have a memorable time during our short stay there before boarding our cruise ship. Marcio Boechat delivered that dream to us and more!
After arrival from the U.S. on our 9 hour flight, we were to meet Marcio early in the morning on our first full day in Rio. He arrived hours early and was waiting for us in the lobby. In his own air conditioned car, we took off to see the sights and learn about his fascinating city. Marcio planned the day well, everything went smoothly, no waiting at any of the major attractions. Marcio is also an excellent photographer, taking our photos along the way. Aside from the normal Christ the Redeemer, Sugar Loaf and the rain forest, we visited famous and unusual churches, and saw the place where the Rio carnival parades are judged.
Another highlight for us was the beautiful lunch at the charming Cafe Colombo, where Marcio knew the staff and got us in rap

Marcio took us around Rio in mid-January, when our ship stopped there for a day. Not only did he show us the ''must'' sights such as Sugar Loaf and Christ the Redeemer statue, but he took us to a waterfall in a national forest, to lunch in a Belle Epoque cafe, led us on a walking tour through downtown, including a stop in front of Carmen Miranda's house. And he took us to a post office and drugstore, as we requested. Traffic was tough, and our drive by the fancy beaches took longer than expected, but instead of cutting the tour short, he gave us an hour or two more without charge - though we happily gave him a gratuity and a hug at the end of our long day! We saw others on our ship bunched in huge groups at the major sites, and felt so fortunate that we had our private guide. The fee and tip were just a bit more than the cost for two people on the ship's daylong tour, and we saw 10 times what the other passengers saw!
