We were two bestfriends on an eat-pray-love kind of get-away. Normally independent travelers, we decided to “splurge” on a private guide as part of the pampering. It turned out to be the best, most sensible decision made. Our 10 ten days in Portugal with Greg was simply magical. Greg was like a favorite cousin meeting us in the airport and taking care of us until we had to go home. He literally took care of everything, brought us to places we would never have found by ourselves, related interesting stories of Portugal, introduced us to a lot of special people . We did so much but at a very relaxing enjoyable pace . We ate with the locals . Prayed in a way we felt heard & healed . And yes, found a new energy to love life & live it to the fullest. We cannot thank Greg enough for going way beyond what was expected of him . He is a gem of a guide who we now proudly call our dear friend in Lisbon.

I spent 3 wonderful days in Lisbon with Greg. We went everywhere, saw everything and ate at the most wonderful restaurants where Greg knew the owners. They would bring out the fresh catch of the day, and we got to choose our favorite. I never felt pressured, rushed or harried. We moved at my leisurely pace and yet got to do so much and to see so much. Greg was always on time and a delight as well. I feel that my trip to Lisbon was a huge success, all thanks to Greg.

Greg brought history to life with his encyclopaedic knowledge of such a fascinating country with all the added stories that make the ‘learning’ so interesting. I have been going through his trip notes and realising that we could easily have spent twice the time and still not seen it all.

I still marvel at how he came up with such interesting people for us to meet along the way. The Mattos wine-family of centuries in the Douro, Father Mariani in the castle of Ourem and Leo Madigan, who was a font of information on all matters concerning the apparitions at Fatima, and the stories surrounding the buildings of the wonderful monasteries in Alcobaca and Batalha.

I commend him for the way he has developed and delivered this very personal approach, We are the richer.

I have a particular interest in the history of Spain and Portugal and contacted Greg with a request to visit the homeland of the Spanish conquistadors in western Spain. We travelled over 3-4 days to interesting but less well known parts of Spain such as Medellin (home of Hernan Cortes), Caceres (the old city was fantastic--although the city had changed the roads and our GPS kept us circling around the city all night before we got back to the hotel after a nice dinner near the 16th century historical region of town. We visited Salamanca, Burgos, Plasencia. I enjoyed discovered the tapas in a bar near the unfinished cathedral en Plasencia in northern extremedura. Greg is a very good travelling companion.

Having visited Lisbon and it's environ towns 4 times I decided to experience the assistance of a guide on my recent visit. Greg Arvoy had been recommended to me by other Americans and my decision to see an intimate and unknown to me side of Portugal was well rewarded. Greg's invaluable personal experience of living in Portugal enabled him to expose me, the traveler, to an insiders knowledgeable view of a fascinating country.
